The History of Rancho Las Lomas
Rancho Las Lomas is rich in history even before Rick and Jeannie Lawrence purchased it nearly 50 years ago. The story begins with this land originally bequeathed to a prominent family via a Mexican land grant and that it once belonged to the coastal Indians. Folklore even suggests that the title to the land changed hands by betting on horse races. Even now, the story continues…
For the Lawrences it began during a trip to Portugal. Together they aspired to build a home for their two sons, imagining a small village with a chapel and quaint little bungalow sprinkled around the rolling hills. Over the years, they lovingly renovated and enhanced many of the original buildings.
Avid collectors, they used recycled salvage materials such as old doors, windows, bricks and lumber, filling the property’s buildings with unexpected surprises. Hand-painted tile murals collected during their trip to Portugal, wood beams adorned with hand painted figures, custom stained-glass windows, 100-year-old Pasadena streetlamps, are some of the enhancements that can still be appreciated throughout the property.
What started as a private home for hosting family and friends, on August 10th, 1980, the Lawrences were the first couple to get married on the property. As a tribute to his beautiful bride, Rick planted a crepe myrtle tree as a gift to Jeannie to remind her of their special day. The Anniversary Tree still blooms annually during the month of August.
Today Rancho Las Lomas is being enjoyed by couples who also find that this land and the love they feel truly is in the air. Ancient Oak and Sycamore trees also surround them with all the remarkable landscape of nature.
It has always been said that a place this special needs to be shared.
The Lawrence family welcomes you. Enjoy your special day.
